Gowfers hold heads up after Cup defeat

Going into the GA Engineering Cup with a depleted squad was not an ideal situation for Gowfers’ manager Alan McSkimming but he was not disheartened by the team’s performance.

He said: “We had some slow play in the first half which was a mixture of a couple of things - rusty from not playing for two or three weeks and being short with a number of late call-offs.

“Some of the guys who played on Saturday hadn’t had a game for up to six weeks so we almost anticipated we were going to be slow to get into the game and I admit we didn’t start playing properly until 50 minutes.”

Using the festive lull to prepare for two tough games against league tops Kelty Hearts and Newtongrange, McSkimming said: “It’s a welcome break to let us switch off temporarily and come back fully refocused for some good football in 2015.”
