Last Saturday, Carnoustie Panmure were scheduled to welcome Ballingry Rovers to Laing Park for a match in the McBookie.com East Superleague.

When the Committee arrived at the ground, just before 8 a.m., they found that, as a result of almost incessant rain having fallen during the Friday and overnight, the pitch was completely awash and the prospects of the game going ahead were zero.

The club however, are not allowed to make this decision on their own and must call in a referee to make a pitch inspection. Mike Roncone arrived just before 9 a.m. and had no hesitation in declaring the pitch unplayable and the game was off.

Other games were also hit by the weather including the ones at Downfield, North End, Thornton Hibs and Tayport’s Scottish Cup replay v Cruden Bay, at the Canniepairt.

In the draw for the Second Round of the Scottish Junior Cup, made last Sunday afternoon in the Irvine Meadow Social Club, the Gowfers were drawn away to West Calder United, with the tie to be played on Saturday October 25.

The pair have met before, with the Gowfers winning the third round tie 4-1, at Westfield back on December 6, 1997. They of course also met more recently in the D.J. Laing East of Scotland Cup, with the Gowfers winning 3-0 down at Hermand Park on September 14, 2013.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Gowfers are again on home ground, with the guests, this week, being Fauldhouse United, who come for a meeting in the McBookie.com East Superleague.

The West Lothian club are newcomers to the Superleague and gained promotion by finishing in second spot in last season’s Premier Division.

The last time United visited Laing Park was almost exactly five years ago, when on October 17, 2009, the Gowfers ran out narrow 3-2 winners in a Premier League clash. With both sides having had a similar start to this current campaign, tomorrow’s tie looks certain to be a closely fought affair. The action is again set to get underway at 2.30 p.m.

Results – Fauldhouse United 2, Newtongrange Star 4.
