On Saturday Carnoustie Panmure travelled to Carmuirs Park, Stirlingshire, to meet Camelon Juniors, in the Mcbookie.com East Superleague.

For the trip Manager Alan McSkimming was still without the injured pair Scott Robertson and Liam Scott as well as Danny Millar and Daniel Neath who were still on holiday.

The home side started brightly and were playing some good football, without really troubling the Carnoustie goal, but they did go close in the 20 minutes when a screamer from Wright just cleared the Gowfers’ bar. Play was swinging from end to end with both defences standing firm and neither set of forwards getting much of a chance, but just before the break, the Gowfers went close to opening the scoring when McIlravey fired off a snap-shot which whizzed past the keeper’s left-hand post.

Half-time – Camelon Juniors 0, Carnoustie Panmure 0.

The second half started much as the first one had done, with the home side doing most of the attacking, but with Ferrie in the visitor’s goal making some good saves to keep his charge intact. Just on the hour mark, Camelon were awarded a penalty with only the referee seemingly knowing what it was for. Allison took the kick, but hit the ball straight at Ferrie, who had no trouble making the save. The penalty save seemed to spur the Gowfers on and they had much more of the play, but still the home defence stood firm and the Gowfers just couldn’t get that vital opener. With the whistle about to sound, and the watch clicking into stoppage time, the Mariners put the Gowfers’ goal under some intense pressure, but still the visitors held out and in the end both sides had to settle for a single point.

Carnoustie Panmure – Ferrie, Cook, Buggins, Black, Trialist, Roberts, McIlravey, Bews, Thomson, Cumming, Simpson. Substitutes – Birmingham, M. Scott, Macpherson (GK)

Tomorrow’s match

The Gowfers are back on home soil when they welcome Broxburn Athletic to Laing Park in the McBookie.com East Superleague. The ‘Burn’ won this fixture 1-0 last season and finished a creditable seventh in the table, so this is likely to be another hard fought encounter. Kick-off will again be at 2.30 p.m.
