CARNOUSTIE PANMURE 2, HILL OF BEATH 2

Last Saturday the Gowfers were back on home soil, playing host to Hill of Beath Hawthorn, in the McBookie.com East Superleague.

For the tie manager Alan McSkimming brought Ewan Buggins, Rori Bews and a trialist, Neath, into the starting XI, with bench spots going to two trialists, Graham and Ian Robertson, Steven Narey, Kevin Milne, Graeme Dailly and keeper Neal Ferrie.

The first effort on goal was by Wardlaw for Hill of Beath, but it was easily held by Macpherson. Carnoustie then won a corner off Lee, but Bews’ kick was blocked for another corner and this time Bews’ kick was cleared by Dair.

L. Scott required treatment after a foul by Smart, but he was able to carry on and Bews then won a corner off Brewster, but his kick was cleared by keeper Adamson.

In 22 minutes, Renton became the first player to be shown yellow for a foul on L. Scott.

Six minutes later Carnoustie took the lead when McIlravey forced a corner off Hay and the kick by Bews landed for Buggins, but his shot was blocked and the loose ball fell kindly for ROBERTSON to hammer home.

Carnoustie kept the pressure up and a free-kick by Bews was headed by Dailly, but not strong enough to trouble Adamson, then McIlravey was fouled on the edge of the box, but this time the kick by Bews was over the bar. Allum then tried a long-range effort, but it sailed past Macpherson’s right-hand post.

Beath came into the game more and Adam was put through by Smart, but he was flagged for offside. Wardlaw then got through the Carnoustie defence, but his shot was blocked by Macpherson and the loose ball was cleared by Cook. Bews took a corner on the left which was cleared out to M. Scott, who played it back in again, but Dailly had strayed offside.

Half-time: Carnoustie Panmure 1, Hill of Beath 0.

Carnoustie made a great start to the second half and went two up in 46 minutes when M. Scott got down the left and crossed for Dailly to shoot, but it was blocked and trialist NEATH followed up to hammer the ball home from 15 yards.

Beath pulled one back in 60 minutes when Neath tripped Allum in the box and SMITH scored from the spot.

Five minutes later Beath were reduced to 10 men when Wardlaw was red-carded for a crude tackle on McIlravey and at the same time Adam was booked for his protests.

In 70 minutes, Brewster was replaced by Wright and Allum was replaced by Arron Hay. Four minutes later Beath went down to nine men when Adam was red-carded after a second yellow.

Five minutes later, Beath shocked Carnoustie when they drew level after Buggins was booked for a foul on Smith 25 yards out. SMITH took the kick himself, sending his shot through the wall, and although Macpherson seemed to have it covered, it slipped under his body and into the net.

Carnoustie pressed for the last five minutes, but a snapshot by Cook was just past. Dailly was replaced by Graham as a last resort, but the final effort came from McIlravey, but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Full-time: Carnoustie Panmure 2, Hill of Beath 2.

Teams: Carnoustie Panmure – Macpherson, Cook, Neath (T), Buggins, Robertson, Roberts, McIlravey, L. Scott, Bews, Dailly (Graham 87), M. Scott. Subs: I. Robertson (T), Narey, Milne, Ferrie (GK).
