Gowfers too slick for Tayport

Carnoustie Panmure 3, Tayport 1

Gowfers faced another team from Fife on Saturday when they welcomed Tayport to Laing Park for a McBookie.com East Superleague fixture.

The homesters started well and attacked from the off. Milne was an early victim of a head knock, but recovered after treatment and was able to carry on.

Bews then fouled Tonner 45 yards out, but Donaldson’s kick was too strong and carried out on the wind. The Gowfers came close when a drive by Roberts was blocked for a corner by Donnachie and Webster’s corner kick was fired just past by McIlravey.

A good run from his own half by McIlravey put Tayport under pressure, but his low cross was turned away by Ross at his near post.

However, home pressure paid off in 29 minutes when Carnoustie took the lead. Roberts sent a fine ball into the box and MILNE, under pressure from Tonner, used his strength to hold him off, swivelled and rifled his shot past Ross from 10 yards.

The same player then had another effort from 30 yards, but it went straight at the ‘keeper. Milne was causing Tayport all sorts of bother and when Webster crossed into the box the Gowfers’ man got in a header, but the defence managed to block it. Donnachie was then booked for a foul on Milne just outside the box and Webster’s free kick was blocked for a corner. Webster took the kick, but it was headed over by Black.

The only time Ferrie was put under pressure was when he had to scuttle back into his goal to save a misdirected back-header by Millar.

Just on half-time Webster flighted in a cross on the swirling wind, but Ross held it safely under the crossbar.

Half-time: Carnoustie Panmure 1, Tayport 0.

Carnoustie had the wind in their favour in the second half and took advantage of it in 50 minutes when a long ball through was chased by Milne who was brought down by ‘keeper Ross for a penalty.

Ross was booked and WEBSTER blasted the ball home.

Tayport got back into the game three minutes later when a corner by McPhee was headed over by Black for another corner and this time McPhee’s kick caused a melee in the six-yard box and MANN, being the sharpest, prodded the ball home.

This gave the visitors confidence and McPhee had an effort from 30 yards, but it was blocked by Myles.

In 59 minutes Donnachie was replaced by Grant and three minutes later McPhee was booked for diving in the box. In 64 minutes Milne was booked for dissent and within two minutes he was replaced by Perera.

Myles commited a foul on Mann out on the right, but McCulley’s kick was too strong and went out the far side. In 68 minutes Suttie was booked for kicking the ball away.

McIlravey then won a corner off Thomson, but Webster’s kick was cleared by McCulley. Gowfers came close to adding to their tally when a snap shot by Black was turned past by Ross for a fruitless corner.

In 74 minutes Roberts was booked for a foul on Rollo and a minute later Suttie was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle on Bews, who was able to resume after treatment.

Roberts then lobbed a ball through to Dailly, but it was just too strong and carried out for a goal kick. The same player then tried a long range shot, but it was well over the bar.

With seven minutes remaining Grant was booked for dissent and a minute later L. Scott replaced Bews.

In 85 minutes Carnoustie sealed the game when a McPhee corner was cleared out to McIlravey who played a good one-two with Dailly, but ‘keeper Ross made a fine save to turn his shot round for a corner. McIlravey’s flag kick into the six-yard box was met by DAILLY who fired home for the clincher.

In 86 minutes Black was replaced by Narey and with little time left Carnoustie played the game out comfortably for a good three points.
