Forfar manager Gary Irvine delighted with side's response in Cowdenbeath

The victory pulled Forfar Athletic to within three points of second placed Annan Athletic and also kicked them six away from Edimburgh City in fourth.

Tuesday night’s win was the perfect response from Irvine’s side who had slipped to a 1-0 home defeat to Stirling Albion on Saturday.

“I’m concentrating on getting points on the board and, at this stage of the season, we’re always looking above ourselves,” said the manager.

"That’s my mindset.

"Albion Rovers will be another tough game.

"It’s another away fixture but the boys knew we’d have a tough week.

"We knew what we were up against with three tough games and, after Saturday, they were dying to get back into training.

"We had a good session on Monday to take us into the Cowdenbeath game.

"Equally, now that we’ve picked up three points, we go to Coatbridge looking to build on that confidence and momentum and feeling good about ourselves, knowing we’ve won that physical battle.”

Andy Munro’s late header sealed with win at Central Park towards the end of a game both sides had large spells on top.

"It was tough in periods and physical,” added the Station Park boss.

"It was scrappy but, even when the game was direct, as a unit I felt we defended well with most things.”
