OVER the course of the 180 minutes against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Steven Doris has certainly made a name for himself, writes Jennifer Newton.
He was already a Lichtie legend after playing a massive part in the Championship winning season of 2010-11 and his goal at Parkhead to set up Wednesday night’s replay will live on in the minds of the Maroon faithful for a long time to come.
And once again at Gayfield on Wednesday night, the 24-year-old was causing the Scottish champions a defensive headache, and was even named man-of-the-match by Sky Sports.
On the hour mark Doris thought he had repeated history when he bundled the ball in the back of the net.
But the goal was struck off with the referee pointing out there had been a infringement of ‘keeper Fraser Forster.
And at full-time Doris told HeraldSport despite his excellent performance he was still gutted with the result.
He explained: “I am disappointed with the result. We put in a good performance and we probably created more chances here than we did at Parkhead.
“With the disallowed goal there seemed to be a lot of people around the ‘keeper and when he goes down, it seems to be the ‘keepers that always get the benefit of the doubt.
“If the goal had stood it could have changed the game as we had a few chances and were keeping the ball well.
“But these games have been massive for the whole club and the players and it was a good achievement to take it to a replay.
“It was nice to be named man-of-the-match by Sky Sports but at the end of the day it was a team performance and we all played well.”
With the cup dream over for another season, unlike their opponents on Wednesday, the Arbroath players returned to their day jobs, which, for Doris, means back to working in Argos.
But he insists they will be ready to get back to league business and push on up the table tomorrow (Saturday) in a derby against Forfar at Station Park.
He said: “Its a big derby for us and there are a few of our ex-players there now so we have to get back to getting some results in our main competition.
