McManus laments what might have been

Arbroath striker Paul McManus was understandably disappointed the Lichties didn’t take something from Rangers on Saturday.

The experienced front man bagged his fourth goal since joining Arbroath against the Gers, but it wasn’t enough to grab a point.

He said: “The goal they got? Same old Rangers. When things aren’t going for them, they get a bit of luck.

“Not just off the linesmen and the referees – it was a ricochet off one of their players and the ball goes in the back of the net.

“We were disappointed. We knew that we had nothing to lose. We just wanted to go and have a go.

“At the end, Rangers were hanging by a thread. I was arguing with Lee McCulloch on the park because I felt he went down too easy.

“I’ve played in this league for a long time and it’s a battle. Teams get stuck in and Rangers aren’t used to that. They like getting time on the ball.

“But we played them off the park at Ibrox and got nothing.”
