McSkimming: With better luck we’d be at the other end of the table

Carnoustie Panmure boss Alan McSkimming has praised his players as their “excellent” form has them safe from the automatic relegation places.

And the Gowfers just need one more point to ensure they cannot be caught and dragged into the relegation play-off.

The only side capable of catching McSkimming’s outfit are Fauldhouse United, who need to win all three of their remaining games - beginning this weekend against the Gowfers themselves.

Alan said: “Our last three games we’ve been excellent. We’ve won two and we were unlucky away to Linlithgow with a late penalty. We could have won all three games to be honest and we’ve hit a bit of form at the right time when we needed it.

“We’re out of the automatic relegation spots. We can’t get relegated but we can be in the play-off spot, though one more point will take care of that. The only team that can catch us are Fauldhouse who have to win all three of their remaining games, and we play them on Saturday.

“We’re in a very good position because we’re above all of these teams, they have to chase us now and we’re almost there.

“I think the highest points total we’ve had in the Super League is 27 and we’re on 31, so it shows you how competitive this league is. Nobody has run away with it - previous seasons have seen a clear gap between the top teams and the bottom section but there isn’t as big a gulf this year.

“If we win our last three games we finish on 40 points and we won’t be too far off the top six teams. That’s where we want to be and if we’d been better with luck in terms of injuries around Christmas time, I think we’d have been safe much sooner and we’d be looking up the table now.”
