Defeat by leading light Bo’ness is a blip and no cause for concern according to Carnoustie boss Alan McSkimming.
The Gowfers plunged to a 3-0 loss on Saturday against third placed Bo’ness United. The gaffer said: “I think Bo’ness are one of the top teams we’ve played against this season.
“It was pretty relentless for the first 10 minutes, we were really under pressure and fortunately Neil Ferrie our goal keeper pulled off some great saves.
“Credit to the players. They weathered the storm and came off at half time still 0-0 but we lost the first goal pretty early in the second half and just never really recovered from that at all.”
He continued: “It was a fair result over the 90 minutes and I can accept that. Bo’ness defeating us will not define us this season.”
Tomorrow (Saturday) Carnoustie face Musselburgh United at Laing Park in what could prove a pivotal clash.
Alan said: “They are sitting eighth in the table and we are five points behind them with three games in hand. This is one game we can use to get within three points of them.
“We’re really going in attacking and much more aggressively. We’ve been playing excellently at home and if we can continue in that vein I am confident we can get a result. We’re very much looking forward to Saturday.”
The gaffer could have a full squad to cherry pick from as suspensions for Robertson and Milne end and injury-stricken Black is a possibility for a bench spot.
It gives the boss plenty of choice and a rare ‘good’ headache. He said: “Only a few players got pass marks on Saturday, so every name is in the hat, so to speak.”
