Panmure back on track, says McSkimming

Gowfers’ gaffer Alan McSkimming was glad on Saturday to see the end of a disappointing string of results for his side.

Carnoustie emerged victors over Blairgowrie in the D.J. Laing Cup, a win at just the right time.

Alan said: “I think it was important to get back to wining ways and that was our focus on Saturday. And we came away with a 3-2 win which felt fairly comfortable and I’m really hoping that this gives us something to build on.

“It was a good overall performance.

“Of course we lost a goal just about a minute into the game which put a wee dent into things but never really felt the game was in doubt.”

He continued: “I think we turned a corner there and got the confidence back in the team. We were on the back of a couple of bad results where we thought we should have got something from the games, and it’s really important that we can take that win into the league.”

Tomorrow (Saturday) they face third placed Bonnyrigg Rose and Panmure are looking for payback. Alan said: “We’ve got a really tough game against Bonnyrigg who are obviously one of the top teams. We’re looking forward to playing them.

“It was the first game of the season and at that time they were excellent, they played some great football. But since then there have been quite a number of changes and their form has been a bit erratic.”

Captain Scott Robertson will most likely be unavailable for the game and there are one or two late fitness calls to be made.
