Pansies prove they are no pushovers

Dundee Violet 4, Carnoustie Panmure 1

On Tuesday evening, the Gowfers made the short trip to Glenesk Park to meet Dundee Violet in their penultimate game of their pre-season friendly programme.

The hosts started strongly and took the lead after 18 minutes when former Gowfer, ROBERT URQUHART beat Keeper Ferrie from just inside the box.

In 35 Minutes the Gowfers went close to levelling the tie when Cumming played the ball in to Thomson who fired off a shot, only to see it cleared off the line, with the keeper well beaten. Right on half-time the homesters doubled their lead and it was again URQUHART who did the damage getting his own and his side’s second.

Half-time: Dundee Violet 2, Carnoustie Panmure 0.

The Gowfers resumed after the break in a more positive mode and pulled themselves back into the game in 62 minutes when THOMSON picked up the ball outside the box, drove forward, then fired it into the net from 10 yards.

The revival, however, didn’t last long as just two minutes later Millar fouled McConnachie inside the box and the referee immediately pointed to the spot.

Another former Gowfer, DUELL took the kick and made no mistake, restoring the Pansies two goal lead. Right on the whistle the Gowfer’s defence was again caught out and McVICAR added number four to complete another miserable evening for the Gowfers.
