The gruelling trench of pre-season matches continued for the Gowfers on Saturday against tough Aberdeenshire side, Banks o’ Dee.
An even handed 1-1 draw gave the home side a well needed boost against the North Region league winners.
Satisfied with the result, boss Alan McSkimming is feeling optimistic about the start of the season.
He said: “It was a good work out for us and for them so we were delighted with the result.
Ahead of the league start fitness and team cohesion are still top of the bill for the gaffer.
He added: “Pre-season is a great time to try new things. The matches can be hit or miss but it’s really about gelling together.”
With the Gowfers final team shaping up, McSkimming is happy with what he sees, especially in the shape of new signing Gavin Thomson.
“He has been a great acquisition, a real talent. He is getting on the score sheet and showing the quality player that he is.”
Carnoustie Panmure lost 4-1 to Dundee Violet on Tuesday night but McSkimming is undeterred.
“We didn’t perform at our greatest but the team is coming from strength to strength and really beginning to gel well.”
The Gowfers were set to play Kilbirnie Ladeside but have cancelled the fixture.
“It was a wise decision,” explained McSkimming. “We will re-schedule at a later stage but it’s important for us to take a bit of time to rest ahead of the first league match on Wednesday.”
