Winter weather puts paid to Gowfers’ fixture

HORRENDOUS weather across the centre belt, wiped out more than half of Saturday’s East Region Junior fixtures, among them Carnoustie Panmure’s programmed trip to Bathgate Thistle.

A ‘phone call on Thursday from the Bathgate secretary warned that the pitch was very wet and it was doubtful if the match would go ahead.

This proved to be the case after an 8.30 a.m. pitch inspection on Saturday by the match referee.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the Gowfers are back on home soil, when they play host to near neighbours Lochee United in the ACA Sports East Super League.

The Bluebells have, of course, already beaten the Gowfers this season, winning the D.J. Laing Cup 1-0 at North End Park in October.

With the sides currently occupying the bottom two league places, both are desperate for points, and another tough encounter is on the cards.

ACA Sports East Super League results: Linlithgow Rose 3, St Andrews United 1; Musselburgh Athletic 2, Hill of Beath Hawthorn 4.
