Alan McSkimming branded his side’s last two results as unacceptable after a brace of 3-0 defeats.
His Carnoustie Panmure team were beaten 3-0 by bottom of the table Fauldhouse United on Saturday before they were sent crashing out of the GA Engineering Cup semi-final by the same result at the hands of Lochee United on Wednesday.
McSkimming was aghast at the performances of his players and said he was mystified how the team can go from such highs to such lows so swiftly.
He said: “I can’t put it into words. Disappointment, frustration, anger - there’s a list of words I could use.
“I’m mystified as to how we can perform as we have been, like last Saturday and Wednesday, then put in two performances like we did this Saturday and Wednesday.
“It’s just not acceptable and the players themselves, as much support and protection as we give them through the season, have to take the blame for these performances. Especially two such important games in our season.
“We’ve just let opportunities slip by us and it’s not good enough. We’re better than that.
“We’re better as a club than that, we’ve moved on from that this season but it shows some of the naivete we’ve got with the younger players.
“We’ve worked so hard to get into a good position in the league and we’ve let it slip with naive performances.
“I can’t put it into words why these performances have happened but we need to go back to showing our hunger because we know that if we do that, we can compete and we’ll get something out of a game.
“That’s the same core of players that destroyed Sauchie, Tayport and we’ve played teams of a similar level and standard and we’ve got nothing out of the game.”
