Carnoustie Panmure 3, Lochee United 2
IN THEIR first competitive match since November 17 and in a change to the scheduled fixture which was meant to be away to Sauchie Juniors, the Gowfers played host to Lochee United in the McBookie.com East Superleague on Saturday. They had former Dundee and Forfar player Brian Deasley, on loan from Peterhead, on from the start.
Lochee kicked off in bright sunshine, but Carnoustie quickly gained control and McIlravey fired in a cross from the right but it went straight into the keeper’s arms. The same player then fed a pass through to Dailly, but he had strayed offside.
Lochee were awarded a free-kick when Robertson fouled Walls 40 yards out, but O’Leary’s kick, into the box was cleared by Clark. Robertson then fouled Reid, this time about 35 yards out and Gates took the kick, but the defensive wall did its job and blocked his effort. Narey was pressured into conceding a corner which was taken by Gates and his kick was cleared out to Cargill outside the box whose fierce shot struck Young. Although there were loud appeals for a penalty the referee waved play on.
The Gowfers then forced a corner off Kirk which was taken by Clark, but Kirk redeemed himself by heading clear. Lochee had a chance when Gates had a shot from outside the box, but it was well past. At the other end, Clark fed a good pass up the left to Deasley and he crossed in to Dailly but he had strayed offside.
The homesters had three quick corners in a row, but Vanderdyl was in good form and held them all. In 28 minutes Carnoustie took the lead after a free-kick was awarded against L. Scott for a foul on Reid. The kick, taken by Gates, was cleared out to Robertson and he played a great pass to DEASLEY who side-stepped Bannon and fired the ball into the corner of the net.
Two minutes later the Gowfers went further ahead when Lochee lost posession after a clash in midfield between L. Scott and Kirk, who was booked. The ball was quickly played to DEASLEY who controlled it and from 25 yards fired it high past Vanderdyl for his and Carnoustie’s second. They almost made it three when Clark made a great run at the Lochee defence, but his shot went right across goal and out.
Kirk then fouled Dailly 40 yards out and although Clark’s kick was headed by Deasley, it was straight at the ‘keeper. Lochee weathered the storm and Walls fired in a good cross which was met by Voigt, but his header brought a great save from Macpherson at the foot of his right hand post. Just on half-time Clark put in a deep cross, but it carried out over the bar.
Half-time Carnoustie Panmure 2, Lochee United 0.
For the second half, Lochee replaced Reid and O’Leary with Hagan and Gallagher. Carnoustie made a great start when Clark won the ball in midfield and passed it for L. Scott to feed on to Deasley who laid the ball off to McILRAVEY. He went past Bannon and shot past the ‘keeper from the edge of the box.
This stung Lochee into action and Kirk made a charge upfield but his long range effort went wide. The visitors stepped up the pressure and a corner by Gates was blasted in by Hagan from 15 yards but Macpherson made a great save to turn his shot round the post. The corner by Gates was cleared by Young.
Narey fouled Bannon 40 yards out but Hagan’s free-kick was well over. In 56 minutes L. Scott was booked for a foul on Grant, but Hagan’s free-kick was well held by Macpherson. In 59 minutes Walls was replaced by Robertson and a minute later Carnoustie replaced Narey with Cook.
The Gowfers were then awarded a free-kick in a good position after Bannon pushed McIlravey, but Clark’s kick was cleared by Cargill. In 64 minutes Dailly was replaced by Perera. Lochee pulled a goal back in 70 minutes when Voigt made a fine run down the right and pulled the ball back for HAGAN to hit a low drive past Macpherson from 15 yards.
The homesters should have made the gap three again when McIlravey fed a fine pass through to Perera in the box, and he made a lovely backheel to the onrushing Deasley but, with the goal gaping, he shot past from 10 yards. Lochee’s Robertson tried a long low drive, but it was well held by Macpherson and the same player then crossed in a fine ball, but Gallagher headed over.
In 78 minutes McIlravey was replaced by M. Scott. A minute later Webster was booked for a foul on L. Scott and the resultant corner, taken by Clark, landed for Cook, on the corner of the box, but he missed his kick and the chance was gone.
Lochee kept piling on the pressure and in 85 minutes further reduced the leeway when a free-kick, out on the left, by Hagan was fired back across goal by Cargill and KIRK swept the ball home from close range.
HAGAN won a free-kick out on the right, but his kick found Kirk offside. Right on 90 minutes L. Scott was shown a second yellow then red to put Carnoustie down to 10 men for stoppage time.
Cargill made the last chance for Lochee with a cross to Hagan, but he blasted over from 30 yards.
