THREE Tayside Police Officers took all the men’s honours at the recent Police Sports UK Scottish Table Tennis Championships held recently at Bell’s Sports Centre, Perth.

Sergeant David Sim, Constable Doug Ogilvie and Constable Chris Macpherson made it a clean sweep for the sixth year in succession for the Tayside trio.

Doug, who is a native of Carnoustie, began playing table tennis whilst at Carnoustie High School. He now resides and serves in Perth.

David and Chris are from Dundee.

All three play in the Dundee and District Table Tennis League.

David triumphed in the open singles and veterans’ singles. He partnered Chris in the open doubles and Doug in the veterans’ doubles.

Despite a field of representatives from police forces across Scotland, Chris and Doug were drawn in the same group in the open singles. Doug was two down in a best of five sets but recovered to make it 2-2 and then took the final set despite at one stage being 8-4 down.

David and Doug made it a case of deja vue when they made it to the final of both the open and veterans’ singles. Despite the 3-0 to David scoreline, the matches provided some thrilling rallies.

Doug, who also plays for the Auchterarder Table Tennis Club, qualified for the UK finals for the first time in the singles events.

All three now go forward to represent Scottish police forces in the PSUK finals at Potters Leisure Resort, Norfolk, in May.
