It was long overdue but Carnoustie Panmure boss Alan McSkimming was finally celebrating a league win after his side beat Camelon 3-2.

The Gowfers owed a big thanks to the heroics of Michael McIlravey whose sublime display was just the icing on the cake as McSkimming finally got to use his full squad.

And the Laing Park boss was overjoyed to see his players perform to the standard that he knew full well they were capable of.

Now they’ve got their first win in the bag, Alan has told his players to set their sights on the sides above them as they look to kickstart their season at last.

He said: “There was a lot of satisfaction about it and the way we went about it was great. We more than deserved the victory. We were really pleased with it and we’re now off the mark, so it’s a building block.

“Right now we need points and results, if we get the performances at the same time then great - but just get the points. For the first 45 minutes, we tore them to pieces and we could have been four or five up.

“The goals were great, it was a great team effort and there were some composed finished. The boys haven’t been short of confidence, but we’ve been frustrated by moving players about because of injuries.

“Whereas on Saturday, we had 16 boys fit and they were all in their proper roles where we get the most out of them, and it showed. When you get the group together we know we can compete, and we did that on Saturday.

“Now we’re looking for consistency from Saturday to this weekend’s game. If we can keep the majority of the squad together we can do well. I think we can improve.”
