Kingennie fishing

LIKE most of the country, Kingennie has not enjoyed the best of weather recently with steady rain leading to some discoloured water for a while.

However, there have still been days when good catches have been recorded and the extra food brought down in the floods is helping the fish pack on weight.

The Boathouse Pond has been worst affected in clarity so lures have been the order of the day with Hot Head Damsels and Black Fritz being the favourites. Individuals within the Ogilvie party had two rainbows for 9lbs and the Lax group had two for 8.25lbs.

Burnside Pond witnessed some incredible evening rises during caenis hatches, with fish dimpling huge areas of the surface. However, catching them was not easy. At other times the fishing has been hectic with many falling to Hot Head Damsels, Fritz and various Dancer patterns.

The Bankside Pond has retained the best water clarity. Catch and release anglers have done particularly well with Craig Horsburgh taking a dozen fish on a variety of dry flies, and young Robert had nine on buzzers and hoppers.

Sedges have produced some action during brief hatches.

Woodside Pond has recorded some above average catches with the Addisons taking six fish for 12.5lbs and the Watsons landing five fish for 11.5lbs. Best results have been on powerbait (orange) and mepps spinners.
