Arbroath bowler Ryan Burnett is now guaranteed two medals from what is turning out to be a wizard trip to oz!

Ryan and his partner Stacey Laidlaw have topped their sections in the World Junior Pairs Championships in Australia.

The duo, both of whom also topped their singles groups, saw off Cook Islands, Australia and Namibia at Broadbeach Bowling Club to lead the way in the pairs.

Team manager Ricky Taylor commented: “The warmest day of the competition so far saw both Scotland’s pairs teams qualify into the weekend stages.

“Ryan and Stacey have emulated their singles success and won their section, which now sees them both guaranteed a medal in the pairs. They saw off the Australia1 pairing which turned out to be a section decider.

“Lesley Gordon and Kevin Anderson finished second in their section and now go into a play off against Wales where the winner will go on to play Malaysia in the semi-final. Ryan and Stacey await the winner from Australia 1 and New Zealand 1.

In the singles semi-finals on Sunday, Ryan is up against either Guernsey or Malaysia for a place in the gold medal final match.
