A CARNOUSTIE man is home after being in the thick of preparations for London 2012.
Eddie Wilmott returned on Monday from his role on the jury of appeal at the British Gas Swimming Championships held in the brand new London Olympics Aquatic Centre.
According to Eddie, Olympic preparations are well in hand and most impressive, he said: “I’ve had an absolutely fabulous adventure.
“The entire Olympic Park is simply stunning. Everyone I met was most helpful and friendly and security is unprecedented.”
Eddie added: “The entire week went without a hitch and both the FINA and LEN delegations were very satisfied with the venue and the management of the event.”
There was also room for some socialising according to Eddie: “I managed to renew a number of acquaintances from past World and European Championships in Shanghai, Madrid and Vienna.
“It was also pleasing to meet up with former Olympians Duncan Goodhew, Mark Foster, Anita Lonsborough, Martin Woodroffe and of course Ruth Gilfillan from Dundee.”
The British Gas Swimming Championship doubles as a qualifier for the British Olympic swimming team, on which a pair of Scots now feature.
Robbie Renwick, City of Glasgow, and Hannah Millie, Garioch, secured their places in Team GB by winning gold.
Eddie added: “The ‘final qualifying opportunity’ will be at the ASA National Championships in Ponds Forge, Sheffield in June and there is every possibility I may be called upon again.”
