IT WAS an up and down week for Broughty Bowling Club with wins in the Ferguson Singles, Guthrie Fours and a win on Wednesday, but losses for both teams on Saturday.

Broughty Castle

VICTORIES in the Ferguson Singles and Guthrie Fours make it a good week for Broughty Castle Bowling Club.

Results: Dundee and District Wednesday Association, Ferguson Singles - Broughty Castle 21, Barnhill 12. Guthrie Fours - Broughty Castle 17, Monifieth 11.

Carnoustie Bowling Club

ON SATURDAY, Carnoustie travelled to Forfar for their fixture with Canmore Bowling Club and received a comprehensive 30-shot defeat.

A more encouraging result was the first Senior League game of the season which saw Carnoustie visit Lochlands and return with a 7-0 points victory over their hosts.

Carnoustie started their Bowls Scotland competitions in fine style when one of their two Senior Fours, Fours A, defeated Broughty B in their first round tie at Broughty Castle on Monday. The Rink of Ken Symon, John Renfrew, Matt Granger and Brian Petrie was victors by five shots. They now meet Muirhead & Birkhill B at Dudhope next Monday afternoon while the other four will also meet Muirhead & Birkhill A at Lochee on the same day.

Result: Bowls Scotland District 5 gents’ qualifiers, senior rinks, first round – Broughty B 12, Carnoustie A 17.

In the City of Dundee Bowling Association Senior League on Tuesday afternoon, Monifieth were the only local winners with a five shot victory against Broughty. Barnhill lost by 14 shots to Dudhope.

Carnoustie WE Club

IT WAS a busy week for Carnoustie West End Bowling Club with two friendly fixtures as well as the Hunter Cup competition.

Last Tuesday night the Hunter Cup team travelled to Lochee to take on Broughty Castle. The West End boys started well and kept going to the finish to run out 26-11 winners and progress to the quarter-finals.

It was business as usual on Thursday night when they took on Longforgan at Craigie and moved smoothly into the semi-finals by 24-6. On the friendly front, West End played Kirriemuir last Wednesday night and came away with a narrow victory. There was another edge of the seat game when West End played host to Invergowrie BC at Kinloch Street on Saturday.
