ON SATURDAY, Carnoustie entertained the Abbey Bowling Club at Maule Street which resulted in a 36 shot victory for the visitors.:

The Carnoustie (2) rink of Bill Coffin, Tom McLean, Angus McKay and Davie Robertson had a narrow win over Newport (2) in round one of the Hunter Cup.

Result: April 23: Hunter Cup, round one: Newport (2) 13, Carnoustie (2) 14.

Carnoustie West End Club

CARNOUSTIE West End got their 2013 season off to a flyer on Saturday with the annual opening of the green match between the president and vice-president.

Over 40 members took advantage of bright sunny conditions to play and victory went to the vice-president’s team by two shots.

Before the match started, president Bob Torrie welcomed everyone to the club before inviting his wife, Jane, and his granddaughter, Kelsey, to roll the traditional first jack.

After the match, members enjoyed light refreshments and a sing-song which lasted well into the night. They also raised a collection for The Blake McMillan Trust and £125.17 was realised.

West End held an open day on Sunday and a steady stream of visitors turned up to receive tuition and get a chance to try their hand at bowling. Anyone interested in taking up bowls or taking up an associate membership should contact the club on 855273 

All midweek matches start at 6.30 p.m.

Broughty Club

BOTH Broughty teams fell at the first hurdle in the Hunter Cup on Tuesday night.

Results: April 23, Hunter Cup, round one - Broughty (2) 13, Craigie (1) 14; Balgay (2) 19, Broughty (1) 11.

Fixtures: April 27 - Broughty v Craigie, 2 p.m. six rinks: Barnhill v Broughty, 2 p.m. six rinks. Wednesday, May 1 - Broughty v Lochee, 2 p.m. six rinks.

Monifieth Club

MONIFIETH played Barnhill home and away on Saturday with both teams emerging victorious.

Results were: Monifieth 155, Barnhill 119: Barnhill 142, Monifieth 168.
