Boxing Club forced to cancel show

Due to extremely poor ticket sales Arbroath Amateur Boxing Club has had to cancel its boxing dinner which was due to be held in the Royal British Legion Scotland function suite on Friday, April 25.

A very attractive bill was being prepared for the event which would have showcased the growing young talent in the club, but with expenses of around £1,000 that can be incurred running such an event, with boxers coming from all over Scotland, and not having reached any significant number of sales it was felt the only option was to cancel.

On a more positive note; Arbroath ABC are having an open day demonstration, on Saturday, May 24, in the Community Centre, Marketgait, as a fund-raising event.

Members of the public will be able to see exactly how the boxers train and prepare for bouts. There will be two rings erected and punch bags, skills area, warm up, exercise, skipping etc.

The boxers will do a ‘sponsored spar’ with some of their ex-champions, who are looking forward to the experience. Everyone will be given the chance to take part in the non-contact sections for a small charge.

More information will follow once all plans have been finalised.
