Carnoustie badminton prize-winners

Carnoustie Panbride Badminton Club recently held their annual presentation of prizes and annual general meeting in the Station Hotel.

Prize-winners were:

Junior girls, singles – Sophie Law; runner-up – Sophie Meek: junior boys, singles – Michael Murphy; runner-up – Craig Cargill: junior doubles (unisex) - Sophie Law and Sophie Meek; runners-up - Craig Cargill and Scott Fleming.

Ladies; doubles – Norma Angus and Sophie Law; runners-up - Jessica Blackburn and Jenny Forteith: gents’ doubles – Lindsay Law and Darren Scorgie; runners-up – Graham Chalmers and Jerry Forteith: mixed doubles – Norma and Graham Angus; runners-up – Jessica Blackburn and Graham Chalmers.

The club had a poor season in the Dundee Area Badminton Association (DABA) leagues finishing bottom of Division One and Division Two. Both teams are relegated.

This will be the first time in almost 30 years that the club won’t be playing at Division One level.

Angus Badminton Association (ABA) matches were not completed. There were no ABA nor DABA tournaments last season.

Colin Sinclair, president, thanked Joyce Chalmers who stood down as treasurer after many years’ service.

The following committee was elected for next season: president - Colin Sinclair; secretary - Val Scorgie; treasurer - Graham Angus; match secretary - Mike Law; and social convener - Jerry Forteith.
