Carnoustie West End lead Angus Bowling League

CARNOUSTIE West End defeated Monifieth by three shots at the Kinloch Street green on Friday evening and remain top of the Angus Bowling League Division One on shots difference from Newgate.

Broughty and Barnhill were also successful on the night as were Broughty Castle, who won by nine shots away to Carnoustie.

Annual singles

quarter-finals

THE QUARTER-FINALS of the annual singles and fours competitions organised by Dundee and district Wednesday Bowling Association were played last midweek.

Broughty Castle were the only local club remaining in the Ferguson Singles and reached the semi-finals with a four shot victory over Longforgan.

In the Guthrie Fours, however, local interest ended when Barnhill lost by a single shot to Craigie.

Barclay Cup

PLAY in the annual Barclay Cup competition, hosted by Broughty Bowling Club, gets under way on Wednesday, May 25, when holders Lochlands will begin their defence of the trophy with a first round tie against Edzell.

Order of play for the opening day is as follows:

10 a.m. - Brechin v Carnoustie; Alyth v Forfar; Fairfield v Montrose; Errol v Newgate; Muirhead and Birkhill v Balgay; Broughty v Dudhope; Broughty Castle v Longforgan; Carnoustie West End v Craigie.
