Carnoustie HSFP 18, Grangemouth 2nd XV 0
Carnoustie entertained Grangemouth 2nd XV in a morning kick off at Carnoustie High School prior to the Scottish International game.
The pitch was soft with a wind blowing down field. Grangemouth set the game in motion with Danny Van Niekirk fielding and setting the ball up, before a series of kicks were exchanged and Grangemouth kicked out on the full.
FPs won the line-out and drove, but the ball carrier was held up. They then took the scrum against the head and gained a penalty, but it was sent wide of the posts. They then fielded a drop out and broke forward, but the ball carrier was isolated and the ball was turned over.
The homesters continued on the attack but again lost the ball, allowing Grangemouth to come forward and gain a penalty which missed the posts.
The visitors fielded the drop out and gained a further penalty which was again missed. They then knocked on from the drop out, but Carnoustie were penalised at the scrum and Grangemouth tapped the ball, but then dropped it, allowing FPs to clear from the scrum. The homesters then missed touch from a penalty and Grangemouth ran the ball back, deep into the home half.
The Angus men cleared to touch and won the line out allowing Danny Van Niekirk to break strongly before being held up. They then took a line out against the throw, drove strongly before OWEN HUGHES broke off the back of the drive to touch down, but with the conversion missed.
Grangemouth restarted with Carnoustie fielding and clearing but the visitors allowed the ball to roll and the chase by Carnoustie was fast, forcing the full back to carry over the line and touchdown.
FPs drove from the scrum but could not get the ball down and they then strayed offside allowing Grangemouth to clear as the referee brought the half to an end.
Half-time: Carnoustie HSFP 5, Grangemouth 2nd XV 0.
The home team restarted the game and gathered the kick before gaining a penalty which missed touch, allowing Grangemouth to clear. They won the line out, but FPs turned the ball over and drove forward, drawing the penalty which was again sent wide of the posts.
The visitors then made a clean break only to be pulled back for a forward pass and Carnoustie maintained field position. When they were awarded a penalty, CHRIS RANKIN found the posts.
Grangemouth restarted with FPs fielding and clearing long, before setting up a series of drives only to be held up. The scrum five was won and initially driven, but quickly recycled and sent down the blind side for NATHAN BOWLES to touch down, but again with no conversion.
Grangemouth restarted and several forwards went offside allowing Carnoustie to tap and run, but again the visitors held up the ball carrier and ran the ball only to be pulled up for a forward pass.
The homesters then sent the ball wide, only to knock on but on the next occasion they had the ball it was sent wide to the winger who chipped the ball over the defence and won the race to touch down, but again the conversion was missed.
Grangemouth restarted and Carnoustie fielded and drove only to go offside.
