TWO ANGUS golf clubs played each other at the weekend, marking 100 years since the first match between the two.
Caledonia Golf Club, Carnoustie, and Forfar Golf Club first played each other on May 6, 1911, at Carnoustie and saw Caledonia win 10-5. The return match at Forfar that year, ended 6-6. The match started 24 years after the Caledonia was established and 40 years after Forfar began.
Competition between the two clubs was as fierce as ever, with bragging rights at stake. The centenary match was played at Forfar over 12 four-ball-better-ball rounds and was followed by a dinner, where a Centenary Quaich was presented for the first time.
The match has been documented in Forfar’s Centenary Magazine.
