Arbroath Academy Badminton Club 8, Abertay University (2) 1
ARBROATH Academy Badminton Club recently played their third last game in their first Dundee Badminton League campaign.
There was one change for this match with Steve Duncan stepping in for Tze Bon Chan. The opponents on the night were Abertay 2.
The first ladies’ doubles saw a hard fought win for Fiona Cameron and Jayne Smith, before a marathon battle in the second ladies’ doubles saw Susan Hardie and Jayne Smith win through. The gents followed suit with two wins, Steve Duncan and Lachlan Mulford winning quickly and Grant Cargill and Duncan also making short work of the opposition.
After the level doubles the Academy already led 4-0.
Cameron and Mulford won both of their mixed games, while Smith and Duncan were also effective in winning. Hardie and Cargill won against the Abertay second string pairing but lost the last game of the night which was a fast and entertaining tie.
Academy have two games to play and need to win both to win the third division after their rivals Dundee University (4) finished their season with a series of wins.
Academy next play St Stephen’s of Broughty Ferry.
