Craigie take the honours in Broughty Castle fours

CRAIGIE (2) took the honours in Broughty Castle Bowling Club’s recent invitation fours event.

The winning rink comprised I. Ringsell, J. Wright, K. Brunton jnr. and K. Brunton snr.

Results from the competition’s latter stages were:

Semi-finals - R. Smith 8, J. Aimer 4; Craigie (2) 9, Carnoustie West End 2.

Final - R. Smith 6, Craigie (2) 7, after extra end.

Broughty Castle

BROUGHTY Castle Bowling Club played a home and away fixture against Canmore Bowling Club, Forfar, on Saturday.

The home rinks lost by 24 shots, and the away rinks by 44 shots, making the overall result Broughty Castle 94, Canmore 162.

Mixed triples winners

IAN SMART, Mike Crooks and Madge Smart, Broughty Castle, were this year’s winners of Barnhill Bowling Club’s annual open mixed triples competition held over the weekend.

Runners-up were Eurof Thomas, Graeme Prophet and Diane Crooks, Barnhill.

In the consolation tournament, the winners were George Hermiston, David Strachan and Pat Hermiston, Barnhill, who defeated Kenny Gall, Fiona Christie and Joan Stewart, Letham, in the final.

Ladies’ successes

TWO LOCAL clubs won through to the semi-finals of the annual competitions organised by the Angus and Perthshire Ladies’ Bowling Association.

Broughty Castle qualified for the last four of the pairs competition with a 17-15 victory over Caledonian, while Carnoustie reached the two-bowl pairs semi-finals by defeating Kirriemuir 25-6.

Local third round results:

Two-Bowl Pairs - Carnoustie 25, Kirriemuir 6.

Triples - Perth 14, Carnoustie 12; Monifieth 8, Kirriemuir 18.

Dundee Seniors’ League

IN THE City of Dundee Seniors’ League on Tuesday afternoon, there were defeats for both Barnhill and Broughty, who remain sixth and eighth in the table respectively.

Results: Balgay 46 (6 points), Barnhill 19 (0 points); Baxter Park 15 (0 points), Muirhead and Birkhill 40 (6 points); Maryfield 49 (4 points), Broughty 22 (2 points); Craigie 37 (4 points), Lochee 33 (2 points); Hillcrest 27 (0 points), Dudhope 30 (6 points); Strathmartine 25 (0 points), Fairfield 43 (6 points).
