Two local members of Forfar Young Curlers featured prominently in last week’s Perth Masters, an International, which attracts top teams from many countries.

Angus Dowell (Carmyllie), playing with Bruce Mouat, qualified unbeaten out of the ‘A’ road for the knock-out stages.

And Duncan Menzies (St Vigeans), playing with Kyle Smith, reached the final where they were beaten by Canadian team, skipped by Brad Gushue an Olympic Gold Medallist.

Tuesday saw the Scottish Junior Curling Championships begin at Aberdeen Curling Rink.

A total of nine teams have qualified for the Junior Men’s Championship, the most important Junior Curling event in the UK.

There are four curlers in each team and seven of these curlers are based in Angus playing out of the Forfar Indoor Sports facility, and are members of Forfar Young Curlers. Both Angus and Duncan are playing in Team Mouat this week.

There will be 10 junior women’s teams playing for the Scottish Junior Women’s Curling championship this week, also in Aberdeen, and six of these curlers are from Angus and are also members of Forfar Young Curlers.
