Local bowler David McGill played his part as Scotland won the British Isles Bowls Title at Leamington Spa over the weekend.
Carnoustie West End club member David had represented the national side at under-25 level, but he was earning his first senior cap.
He led for the team captain, Grant Logan, who drew the first game against Commonwealth Games champion Robert Weale on Saturday. The they defeated England 28-19 and completed a fine weekend’s work with a 17-15 success over Ireland.
And Grant’s father, Gordon, was the team manager and after a poor showing in Dublin 12 months earlier, he was delighted.
“I could not have asked any more from my players,” the jubilant manager said. “There were five new skips, six new caps and four recalls and they all gave 100 per cent and performed with distinction. You could say they took their chance to impress and were certainly highly motivated.”
Overall, Scotland’s results were: Scotland 117, Wales 107; Scotland 134, England 103; Scotland 142, Ireland 89.
