Forfarshire v Arbroath United

FORFARSHIRE finished the season with a home defeat from Arbroath United on Saturday, which put an end to the Broughty Ferry club’s slim chance of winning the Scottish National League Premiership, and heavy rain and high winds on Sunday saw the cancellation of their final league fixture of the season away to Aberdeenshire at Mannofield.

A diving catch from Jalees Ahmed off Graeme Quinn saw Forfarshire take a wicket in the second over of the Arbroath United innings, but F. Burnett (72) and Vithana (43) added another 108 runs before the second wicket fell, Vithana well caught by Scott Galloway on the boundary.

A late charge by McGill (21 from 21 balls) saw Arbroath finish on 205 for seven at the end of 40 overs, the match having started late due to earlier rain.

Ryan Watson and Craig Wallace fell within the space of three balls to leave Forfarshire 16 for two after three overs and from there they struggled to 73 for five when Aman Bailwal was joined by Umair Mohammed with Arbroath seemingly well in control of the game.

An 88-run partnership for the sixth wicket saw ‘Shire recover and a tight finish looked likely until Aman (47 from 56 balls) picked out C. Burnett at long-off to trigger a collapse that saw the final five wickets fall for 24 runs, Umair being last man out for a valiant 53 from 65 balls.

Forthill XI v Broomhall

East League side Broomhall brought their Sunday XI for a friendly against Forthill XI.

The home side batted first and an unbeaten century from Adam Hill along with 39 from Ross Lloyd helped rescue the innings from 57 for four to see a healthy 214 for eight posted after 40 overs.

Broomhall opener Miller scored 47 to set up a competitive finish, but the introduction of Jack Hogarth turned the game in Forthill XI’s favour, his tidy spell of four for 14 from five overs cleaning up the visiting middle-order.
