IN A thrilling climax to the Dundee Area Badminton Association season, Division Two side Carnoustie Panbride (2) upset the formbook by defeating holders Harris in the final of the Handicap Cup, sponsored by Victor Sports.
There was an early indication how closely contested the match would be when the first rubber was drawn 21-19 20-21.
With the first set of the second game tied at 20-20, Panbride (2) won the decisive point before adding the second set to take the lead against their Division One opponents.
The advantage was then extended in the third rubber and with the final level doubles drawn, Panbride (2) led 2-0 going into the mixed.
The tide then seemed to be turning the holders way when Harris won the opening two mixed doubles to level the match, but Graham and Norma Angus put the Carnoustie side back in front with a convincing 21-3 21-13 win.
Maureen Bowser and Mark Hadden kept Harris hopes alive with a 21-16 win in their opening set, but Carol Marshall and Colin Sinclair responded with a 21-13 win and in the end both the final two rubbers were drawn, giving Panbride (2) the trophy, courtesy of a narrow 3-2 victory.
