Angus Netball Club has been up and running now for six years and these last 12 months have been its most successful year to date.
For the first time one of the girls, Erin Moore, was selected to play for the Scotland Under-17 squad that travelled to Malta earlier this year and Courtney Marsden also made the long squad gaining valuable training experience.
In the District Tournaments the Under-17s reached the semi-finals which is a huge achievement for the girls as they all come from Arbroath and are competing against big Districts like Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The Under-15s took it one step further and were runners-up being beaten by only three goals in the final. This was very disappointing for the girls as they had already beaten opponents Glasgow in their round match.
All of the girls play for their High School teams and there are now playerss attending from Forfar, Carnoustie, Monifieth, Kirriemuir and Brechin and most of these schools enter teams into the Scottish Schools’ Cup, Arbroath High School always do very well in this competition. This year the 2nd and 3rd year teams were winners and the 1st years runners-up.
Unfortunately the seniors drew Peebles, eventual champions, early on in the rounds and were knocked out. This was frustrating for the girls as they would have definitely made it to the finals if they had been on the other side of the draw.
Netball in Angus is growing with about 80 girls ranging from nine to 18 years playing on a regular basis. It would be great to give even more girls the opportunity to take part in this popular female sport therefore if anyone would like to get involved in the club in anyway or any local businesses that would like to sponsor a team please get in touch with head coach Lynda Sim 07743 018 547 email email@example.com
