FORFARSHIRE maintained their 100 per cent record in the Scottish National League Premiership with a convincing five-wicket win over last season’s champions, Barclays Wealth Grange, at Forthill on Saturday.

Brendan Ford forced Patel to play-on in the first over of the game and not to be outdone Aman Bailwal picked up the wicket of Maiden in the second over, well caught by Ryan Watson at slip, to see Grange 4 for two after two overs.

Graeme Quinn accounted for professional McSkimming, aided by a leaping catch from Aman Bailwal at mid-on, before a slight recovery saw Moffat and McCallum take the total to 75 when Moffat found the safe hands of Elliot McCandless at point.

Two quick wickets for Andy Wallace saw the scoreline read 83 for six and when McCallum picked out Umair Mohammed on the mid-wicket boundary for 38 the end looked in sight, but an effective rear-guard action from Davidson (45) saw two valuable late partnerships take Grange up to 166.

A rain break in the first innings saw Forfarshire set a target of 165 in 48 overs. Ryan Watson got the reply off to a quick start with consecutive boundaries before a further onslaught off Davidson’s second over saw two 4s and a 6 scored as the total raced to 26 after four overs.

A sharp catch by McSkimming at slip accounted for Ryan (29 from 20 balls) with the total on 66, but the momentum was maintained by Brendan Ford, who passed 50 in 41 balls before being stumped for a fine 62.

Scott Galloway played fluently as the scoreboard continued to race along, but when three further wickets fell in quick succession, a more cautious approach was adopted as the home side stumbled to 132 for five. However, Tony Weed provided the experience needed to settle the situation and saw ‘Shire home without further loss, Scott finishing with an excellent 43 not out.

Forthill sat out the weekend following the withdrawal of Cupar from the Strathmore and Perthshire Union, while on Sunday, Forthill XI were left disappointed by the late call-off of Strathearn XI, who were unable to raise a team.
