Forthill go down by two wickets

FORTHILL lost a closely contested match against Stoneywood-Dyce at Forthill on Saturday and on Sunday, Forthill 2nd XI were comfortable winners over Kinross, but Forthill 3rd XI lost at Falkland.

A magnificent bowling performance from the Ferry Forfs under-15s gave them a quarter-final win over Huntly last Wednesday and got them through to the Under-15 Finals Day at Shawholm (Polock CC) on Sunday, July 8, to play alongside Drumpellier, Prestwick and Carlton or Grange.

The Ferry Forfs made the long journey to Huntly after four previous attempts had been postponed and re-arranged due to rain. The visitors won the toss and asked Huntly to bat on a wet, but playable wicket. Huntly started brightly with 22 off as many balls until Jack Hogarth caught and bowled dangerman Squire for 13.

The introduction of Rory Johnston into the attack brought a flurry of wickets with him taking five wickets for only two runs and with two wickets each for Christian Robertson and Marshall MacLeod, Huntly were bowled out for 40 in 13 overs.

The Forfarshire coaches decided to give the lower order batsmen a go, but this backfired spectacularly when the Forfs slumped to 14 for 5 in 7 overs, but Scott Cameron (23 not out) helped to score the runs needed, to the relief of the players and coaches.

Huntly under-15s 40 all out: Johnston, 5 for 2; Robertson, 2 for 10; MacLeod, 2 for 2.

Forfs under-15s, 41 for 5: Cameron, 23 not out.

On Thursday, the Forfarshire under-18s v Arbroath under-18s and Forfarshire under-15s v Brechin Buccaneers under-15s matches were cancelled, as was the Cricket Scotland League, Stoneywood-Dyce v Forfarshire match on Saturday.
