CARNOUSTIE gymnast Jennifer Brankin competed in the 12th Gymstars International Women’s Artistic Gymnastics competition in Tarxien, Malta, at the weekend when she won an individual gold medal for a highly impressive performance on floor.
The competition was a team and individual event. Jennifer and the team from her club, DGC2K, competed in the 10-to-13-years age group and also won a bronze medal in the team event.
The competition attracted gymnasts from England, Sweden, Germany, Jordan, etc., and 20 teams took part.
The event was opened by Mr Joe Caruana Curran, representing the Malta Parliamentary Secretary of Sport, and medals were presented by Malta’s Ambassador to Jordan, Mr Anthony Debono, a director of the Malta Olympic Committee.
Jennifer, a first year pupil at Carnoustie High School, went on to attend a four-day international training camp on the island conducted by coaches from the Netherlands and Bulgaria.
Gymnasts received achievement medals and certificates on the final day of the training sessions.
