EAST beat overnight table-toppers North 3-0 in the final session of play on Sunday morning to win the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association annual inter-area girls’ team tournament held at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club, Broughty Ferry, over the weekend.

With two wins each, both teams finished with four points out of a possible six. The tie-breaker was the total of games won by each side and East won it with seven games won, compared with North’s 4.5.

Claire Robertson, Carnoustie Ladies, was one of the six players representing North.

Tegan Seivwright and Sophie Alexander, both Deeside, beat Samantha Cowan and Alexandra Qayum, 3 and 2; Nicola Robertson, Dunblane, and Claire Gadsby, Crieff, beat Katie McGarva and Heather Neilson, 4 and 3; Eilidh McTavish, Elgin, and Claire Robertson, Carnoustie Ladies, lost to Emma Kennedy and Grace Mackie, 2 and 1.

Tegan Seivwright and Sophie Alexander beat Danni Ker and Leanne Wilson, 7 and 5; Nicola Robertson and Claire Gadsby beat Katie Wright and Emma Dodds, 5 and 3; Eilidh McTavish and Claire Robertson halved with Mirren Fraser and Emma Kennedy.

Tegan Seivwright and Sophie Alexander lost to Alexandra Tait and Rosie Everett, two holes; Nicola Robertson and Claire Gadsby lost to Chloe Goadby and Sophie Maguire, 6 and 5; Eilidh McTavish and Claire Robertson lost to Alexis Hutton and Catherine Goodwin, 5 and 4.

PRINCIPAL prize-winners in the Monifieth Golf Links Seniors Open over the Medal Course on Friday were: overall scratch, R. Stewart, Tulliallan, 71 and overall handicap/Graham Rosebowl, I. Watt, North Berwick, (14) 68.

Danny retains

Ben Hogan Trophy

DEFENDING champion Danny Elder retained the Carnoustie Golf Links Strokeplay Championship for the Ben Hogan Trophy with a 54-hole aggregate of 220, one better than his winning score last year.

Runner-up was Aaron Sweeney on 224.

Early exit in Matchplay

STROKEPLAY champion Danny Elder made an early exit from the Carnoustie Links Matchplay Championship, losing 5 and 4 to Geoff Singer in the first round on Friday evening.

Geoff followed this with a one hole victory over Eugene O’Brien in the quarter-finals on Monday and was joined in the last four by Kris Harper, Aaron Sweeney and last year’s winner Andrew Fyfe.

ANDY Todd aced the 16th hole on the Ashludie Course, Monifieth. His playing partners were Ian and Alan Ritch.

Munross Trophy

REBECCA Wilson of Grange Golf Club, Monifieth, rediscovered the form that earned her Scotland junior international honours when she won the Munross Trophy, an SLGA order-of-merit 36-hole event, at Montrose Links on Sunday.

Rounds of 70 and 73 gave the Stirling University student a three-under-par aggregate of 143, six ahead of her nearest challengers. Ashley Smith, Monifieth, was sixth on 153.

ANGUS Ladies’ County Golf Association held their SIMF Brooch meeting over the Medal Course, Monifieth, on Monday.
