Good cup win for Forthill

Autoecosse Forthill made a good start to their Three Counties Cup quarter-final tie at Lochlands on Thursday evening.

Graeme Garden and Gavin Martin reached 52 in the ninth over before the latter was run out for 22 by Craig Cameron.

A further run-out followed in the next over when David Colin-Thome was run out by Blair Carnegie.

Graeme Garden took his score on to 44 before being dismissed in the 14th over by Matthew Hurst with the total on 79. Scott Cameron and Clark McConnachie then scored quickly, taking the total up to 110 in the 17th over when McConnachie was caught by Mark Fleming off the bowling of Craig Ross.

A further three wickets fell as Forthill closed on 126 for seven.

In reply Arbroath made a slow start reaching 18 after six overs for the loss of Jack Plomer bowled by Samir Hill.

Craig Cameron was joined by Bryce Carnegie and the scoring rate increased, but with the total on 71 Carnegie was caught on the boundary by Andrew Cameron.

The target was now 56 from 51 balls and Cameron and the new batsman Blair Carnegie stayed with the run-rate, requiring nine from the final over.

However, they were both dismissed by David Colin-Thome as United closed on 120 for four, giving Forthill a six-run victory and a semi-final meeting with Perth Doo’cot.

Forthill v Rossie Priory

The joy of that cup victory two days earlier was quickly forgotten as Forthill’s disappointing league form continued at home to Rossie Priory on Saturday.

Batting first, Rossie posted a total of 216 for four, but following the early departure of experienced opening pair Graeme Garden and John Findlay, the home side’s reply never got into gear and only a valiant last wicket partnership between Glenn Carnegie and Samir Hill enabled a three figure score to be achieved.

Forthill eventually crashed to a 105-run defeat and with only two wins from eight games currently sit eighth in the Clubsport Strathmore and Perthshire Union Premier Division.
