MONIFIETH Primaries’ November cross country meeting saw around 40 runners compete.

Pupils from Seaview, Mattocks and Birkhill competed at the meet on Friday at Camperdown Park.

Active Schools coordinator Jo Whaite hopes the cross country meetings held in Monifieth will stand the runners in good stead for the forthcoming Angus cross country event.

She said: “This was a good opportunity for the children to put into competition practice their learning from training gained in the after school clubs, kindly run by teachers within each of the schools.

“The route was around a mile, very hilly and demanding underfoot. Nevertheless, front runner Jude Hughes from Seaview came in first with a very respectable time of 6 minutes 57 seconds, closely followed by front runner for the girls Niamh Robertson, Birkhill in 7 minutes 21 seconds.

“Let the training commence for the Angus Cross Country Event to be held in Forfar March 2013!”

All race results are passed on to the P.E. Department at Monifieth High School which lets them keep track of local cross country talent.
