Waid Academy FP 0

Carnoustie entertained their visitors from Anstruther for the first time in a number of years, but with a good record in recent friendly games.

The homesters kicked off and won an early scrum from which the ball was played quickly to DANIE VAN NIEKIRK to touch down with CHRIS RANKIN converting.

Carnoustie fielded the restart and ran the ball, but were pulled up for a forward pass. Waid were then penalised for a not feeding straight at the scrum and Carnoustie tapped and again fed DANIE VAN NIEKIRK who crashed over, with the conversion added.

Waid gained a penalty, but almost immediately conceded one and Carnoustie found touch, sent the ball wide from the line-out and found DEAN NICHOLSON on hand to finish off the move, but with no conversion.

Play then became a bit scrappy with penalties conceded by both sides, before Carnoustie settled things down and DAVID CAMPBELL broke through for the bonus try. Waid gathered and went wide, but then they dropped the ball and Carnoustie cleared it up on their 22 and ran it clear before releasing IAN COOK who touched down, but again with no conversion.

Half-time: Carnoustie HSFP 29, Waid Academy FP 0.

The Fifers restarted with Carnoustie fielding and driving, then going wide, gaining a penalty, which was tapped, driven, recycled, driven again before being finished off by KEVIN FRANCO.

The Angus men fielded the restart and the forwards took over with a series of drives finished off by IAN REID touching down with the conversion added by CHRIS RANKIN.

Carnoustie fielded the restart and kicked, but too long and Waid touched down. The drop out was fielded and run back, allowing OWEN HUGHES to cross and touchdown.

The game now became a procession with the home players brimming with confidence and Waid tiring. From the restart Waid kicked and the Carnoustie forwards drove before releasing DAVID CAMPBELL to touch down, again with no conversion.

The restart was quickly regained and JASON DONNACHIE was released to touch down with the conversion by CHRIS RANKIN. Again, from the kick-off the homesters charged upfield with the move finished off by ANDREW MORTON and the conversion added.

Waid fielded the restart and ran the ball, but were penalised for obstruction. Carnoustie found touch, won the line-out and fed the ball back into centre field for TOM HALL to touch down with the conversion added. Waid fielded the restart, but lost possession and JASON DONNACHIE again ran down the wing to touch down and the conversion was added.

The next home try brought some variation as a series of forward drives and quick recycling were finished off by TOM HALL and the conversion added.

The restart was fielded and run before being kicked and re-gatherd with TOM HALL again finishing off and the conversion being added. The final try was finished off by IAN REID.

Team: Nicholson, Cook, Addison, Van Niekirk, Coates, Shepherd, Rankin, Campbell, Murray, Scott, Murray, Rankine, Franco, Reid, Hughes, Barnett, Donnachie, Hall, Morton, Christie, Esposito and Light.
