A JUNIOR afternoon held by Carnoustie Ladies’ Golf Club last Wednesday attracted a great turnout of 15 girls, ranging in age from six to 15 years.
Some had previously had a few golf lessons from the local professionals but others had never held a club before!
Captain Sheila Brunton extended thanks to Colin Sinclair and Nikki Christie from the pro centre.
The girls - and three mums - had an enthusiastic, funfilled afternoon either learning to hit the ball for the first time, or playing round a specially prepared six-hole minicourse behind the pro centre. It had been set up by Sandy Reid and Craig Boath from the Links staff and, hopefully, will become a permanent fixture over the summer months.
Everyone went back to the clubhouse for welcome light refreshments.
Mrs Brunton said: “It is hoped that the enthusiasm generated and the new friends made will continue and many more girls will join in.”
Local primary schools are to run three sessions for beginners after the holidays and if any young girl is interested watch out for the details once school starts again or get in touch with Sheila Brunton, 853631 or via Carnoustie Ladies’ website.
The club’s next function is a race night in the Station Hotel on Friday, April 19. Anyone who would like tickets should contact any member of the club.
