Broughty Bowling Club

Broughty entertained Mayfield BC last Wednesday and recorded a fine victory, winning by 11 shots, but were then beaten by Newgate on Friday in their Specsavers Angus League Division One match.

In the Saturday matches it was a home win, but an away defeat. Congratulations were extended to Wilma Petrie who, along with her playing partner Freda Foote, Muirhead & Birkhill, reached the semi-finals of the Muirhead & Birkhill Ladies’ Open Pairs competition.

There was an excellent win for Broughty Castle in the Specsavers Angus League, Division Three, but elsewhere it was a mixed bag.

Carnoustie Bowling Club

Carnoustie continued their good start to the Angus Senior League with a four points to three win against Arbroath at Maule Street last Tuesday afternoon.

At the same time, Carnoustie Ladies recorded a 15 shots victory over Dudhope, but they had mixed fortunes during the past week, having experienced defeat at the hands of Friockheim in the Angus League and drawn with Baxter Park in the Saturday fixture. However, they maintained their unbeaten run in the Angus Senior League on Tuesday at Brechin with a five points to two victory over Parkview.

Carnoustie West End

Defending champions Carnoustie West End 2 are through to this year’s final of the Hunter Cup. They survived the trip to a rainy Wormit last Tuesday and came away after defeating Barnhill BC 18-13. They now play Newport BC at Strathmartine hoping to bring the Hunter Cup back to Kinloch Street.

West End played two Angus League games in three days. Last Wednesday they played Forfar BC at home and ran out winners by 18 shots. Then on Friday they travelled to newly promoted Muirhead and Birkhill and again claimed the spoils by 13 shots. After two games played West End are joint top with Arbroath BC.

The ‘Scottish’ started this week and West End were well represented in all the competitions with only the triples bowing out at the first round stage.

On Saturday West End travelled to Canmore for their friendly game and were in generous mood with shot allocation giving Canmore victory by 97-95

City of Dundee Association

For the second successive week, Monifieth were the only local winners in the City of Dundee Bowling Association Senior League on Tuesday afternoon. The Albert Street club remain two points clear at the top of the table after defeating Craigie by 16 shots.

Broughty and Barnhill lost to Dudhope and Hillcrest respectively.
