Grangemouth Stags RFC 34,

Carnoustie 10

CARNOUSTIE HSFP travelled to fulfil their last league game of the season against the league leaders, Grangemouth.

The visitors got the game underway and were almost immediately penalised. The home team found touch and won the line-out and then drove forward, but the ball was held up over the line. Winning the scrum they drove forward again, this time with the ball touched down, but with no conversion.

FPs were hanging in strongly against a much heavier pack and amazingly took a scrum against the head, but they were then penalised. They were now more in the game and by putting the ball through the hands were making ground, but eventually were forced back and Stags broke through with a strong break in the centre field, before again driving line ball to touch down, again with no conversion.

The homesters fielded the restart and gained a penalty, found touch and sent the line-out ball to centre field where the inside centre broke through the defence and sprinted in under the posts, this time with the conversion added.

Grangemouth again fielded the restart and with fast hands and good pace, broke cleanly down the wing to touch down, but again with no conversion.

Half-time: Grangemouth Stags RFC 22, Carnoustie HSFP 0.

Stags kicked off the second half with Craig Addison fielding and then being fouled. The visitors couldn’t find touch and Grangemouth ran the ball back and aided by consecutive penalties, again drove lineout ball to touch down, without converting. The home players were soon on the attack again making a clean break to touch down and convert.

FPs, showing great determination and spirit, found touch in the corner and drove the lineout, but were held up over the line.

Grangemouth then lost the ball and Carnoustie fed it through the hands, gained a penalty, tapped again and sent the ball wide at pace, allowing ROSS COATES to drive through and touch down, but with no conversion.

From the restart the visitors attacked down the wing with JASON DONNACHIE taking the final pass to cross in the corner, again with no conversion.

The game descended into a series of penalties and injuries, with FPs being reduced to 13 men before the referee called a halt.

Team: Crowe, Starkey, Winger, Langlands, Donnachie, Swanson, Rankin, Hughes, Reid, Addison, Coates, Lawton, Hall, Franco, Dawson, Downie.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Carnoustie 2nd XV play Harris 2nd XV at home with a 3 p.m. kick-off..
