THE ANNUAL Rural Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala was held at Arbroath Sports Centre last Wednesday.

Primary four to seven pupils from Mattocks, Murroes, Monikie, Inverkeilor, Arbirlot and Colliston took part.

The three front runners, Monikie, Colliston and Murroes, were all very close in the scoring. Monikie came out in first place with 100 points.

Jo Whaite, Angus Active Schools, commented: “In total we had six schools on board for the gala making the event a huge success with around 80 to 90 children competing. Parents and school staff support on the night really made the event come alive with the enthusiasm and encouragement for each and every child.”

Monikie Primary School put forward some superb swimmers this year one of whom was Jenna Geddes who broke two records, reording a time of 24.77 for the primary six girls’ breaststroke and girls’ backstroke record with a time of 20.33.

Blair Blythe Brown from Monikie smashed three records with a fantastic 18.00 for the girls’ backstroke, 16.55 for the front crawl and 24.27 in the breaststroke.
