Sandyhills man is top scratch prize-winner in Seniors’ Open

WINNER of the prize for the best scratch score in the Carnoustie Golf Links Seniors’ Open over the Burnside Course on Friday was J. McKnight, Sandyhills, with a 79.

In the handicap section, the best overall score was a net 71 by B. Brownlie, Kilspindie.

Mixed Foursomes

CARNOUSTIE Golf Links held their annual open mixed foursomes competitions for the R.B. Cant Challenge Cup, scratch, and MacDonald Smith Trophy, handicap, over the Burnside Course on Sunday.

Robin Reyner, Caledonia, and Frances Millar, Carnoustie Ladies, won the Cant Cup with a scratch 74.

David Fleming, Portlethen, and Marion Campbell, Ladybank, were second with 75, on the better inward half from Paul Teviotdale, Arbroath, and Claire Penman, Carnoustie Ladies.

Winners of the MacDonald Smith Trophy were Mr and Mrs G. Millar, Forester Park, with a net 66.

Three qualify

IN A Midland Golfers’ Alliance competition at Pitlochry last Thursday, September 15, a further three players qualified for the JTC Interiors Express Alliance Championship to be held over the Burnside Course, Carnoustie, in April.

William Hutton, Pitlochry, booked his place with a two-under-par 67, Kane Nusteling, Pitlochry, with a 70, and Alistair Duncan, Murrayshall, with a 71.

William Hutton, who plays off scratch, also qualified for the McQueen Shield handicap championship at the same venue.

Charity tri-am

MONIFIETH Rotary Club held a charity tri-am at Panmure Golf Club, Barry, on Sunday.

Results: Scott Brothers Cats (Vince McCann, George Suttonwood and George Jarron) 83 points; 2, Gorilla Corrosion (Colin Kennedy, Colin Kennedy jnr and James Cromar) 80 points; 3, Barloworld 4 (Ian McMenamy, Craig Pringle and Willie Blatner) 77 points.

Other prize-winners were Janice Pirie, Kenny Laing and Malcolm Chisholm.

Hole-in-one

GEORGE Nicoll holed his 7-iron tee shot on the 172 yard 8th hole at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club on Saturday. His playing partners were Kenny Bunce and John Honeyman.

Win for McLaren

DUNDEE and district Licenced Victuallers held a golf outing over the Medal Course, Monifieth, last Thursday, September 15.

I. McLaren took the honours with a net 67, playing off 14.
