THE ANNUAL general meeting of Arbroath and District Pool League was held last week.

The following office-bearers were elected for the forthcoming season - Gordon Smith, president; Graham Dunbar, vice-president; Michael Bastow, match secretary; Roy Middleton, treasurer; Scott MacEwan, secretary; and Scott Berrie, Stuart Campbell, Lindsay Palser and Scott Strachan, ordinary members.

Registration night

Team registration for the 2012-13 season will take place on Sunday (September 2) in the Royal British Legion Scotland clubrooms, Helen Street, starting at 7.30 p.m. For those who do not have a team registration form, these are available on the website atwww.arbroath.scottishpool.com in the download section.

SPA doubles

The national finals of this year’s SPA Scottish doubles will be held at Craig Tara, Ayr, on Friday, November 9, starting at approximately 12 noon. Depending on entries there will be a local qualifier.

Players should note that the national finals are the same weekend as the Super 15s ‘A’ event and the weekend before the Super 15s ‘B’ event at Pettycur Bay. Players competing in the national finals and who are not competing at the Super 15s ‘A’ event are not under any obligation to stay at Craig Tara.

Entries are to be submitted at the next SPA meeting on Sunday (September 2), therefore the Arbroath deadline for entries is Friday, August 31.

SPA Super 15s

The following players have been selected to represent Arbroath at the upcoming Superleague events.

A Team – Gordon Smith (captain), Steve Webster, Dave McFarlane, Jonathan Cargill, Graham Dunbar, Gordon Dickson, George Fairweather, Steve Hallam, Gary McLeish, Stuart Smith, Gareth Ruxton, Roy Middleton, Tam Walkinshaw, Ian Anderson and John Maud,

This team will travel to Haven, Craig Tara, Ayr, to compete over the weekend of November 9 to 11.

B Team – Michael Bastow (captain), Scott MacEwan, Richard Paterson, Mark Gray, Sean Hardwick, Steve Hardwick, Kenny McMillan, Brian Craig, Drew Webster, Kevin Brown, Walter Preston, Steve Reid, Alex Cargill, jnr., Kris Cameron, Ryan MacKenzie and Colin Smith.

At present, it is not known if the B team will play at Craig Tara, Ayr, on November 9 to 11, or at Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn, on November 16 to 18. This will be decided by the Scottish Pool Association on September 2 and the players will be advised accordingly.

Players are reminded that their accommodation fees of £36 per player are required no later than tonight (Friday, August 31). Players who have not paid by this date will be removed and a player(s) invited to join the team from the reserve list.

Players wanted

The Portcullis (3) and St Tams are currently seeking players for the new season. Should anyone be interested in joining either team they should contact the team captains, Paul Kelly, Portcullis 3, or Lindsay Palser, St Tams, on the forum thread on the pool website at www.arbroath.scottishpool.com

Round one: match one - Davie Williams v bye; match two - Gary McLeish v bye; match three - Richard Paterson v bye; match four - Martin Cherry gave walkover to Jonathan Cargill.

Round two: match five - Davie Williams v Gary McLeish; match six - Richard Paterson v Jonathan Cargill.

Qualifier: winner match seven.

Section Two

Round one: match one - Alan Reid v bye; match two - Michael Bastow lost to Steve Webster, 6-2; match three - Mark Crozier v bye; match four - Wayne Green v Sean Hardwick.

Section Six

Round one: match one - Jim Falconer v bye; match two - Alex Cargill v Andy Braid; match three - Garry Mitchell v bye; match four - Tam Walkinshaw beat Craig Humphreys, 6-3.

Round two: match five - Jim Falconer v winner match two; match six - Garry Mitchell v Tam Walkinshaw.

Round three: match seven - winner match five v winner match six. Qualifier: winner match seven.

Section Seven

Round one: match one - Roy Middleton v bye; match two - Karl Capewell v Scott MacEwan; match three - Drew Webster v bye; match four - Ricky Dewars v Graham Dunbar.

Round two: match five - Roy Middleton v winner match two; match six - Drew Webster v winner match four.

Round three: match seven - winner match five v winner match six.

Qualifier: winner match seven.

The IM#5 finals are to be held over the weekend of September 29 and 30 at Nonsuch, Saltcoats. The SPA need Arbroath’s seven qualifiers 14 days in advance of the finals, giving the league until Sunday, September 16, to have all qualifying ties completed.

The deadlines for the event are as follows:

Matches one, two three and four must be played by Sunday (September 2); matches five and six must be played by Sunday, September 9; match seven must be played by Sunday, September 16.

Matches are best of 11 frames, lag first frame only. Players are to arrange matches with each other at a venue and time which suits both. If you have any problems arranging fixtures please get in touch with the match secretary as soon as possible. Winners to text or ‘phone result to the match secretary upon completion of each match.
