Kohki Idoki of Japan and Joe Durant of the USA were joint leaders at the halfway stage of the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex at Carnoustie.
Idoki carded a five under par 67, and holed a bunker shot for a final hole birdie three to take a share of the top spot.
Durant birdie the last to card a four under par 68 on the day, joining Idoki on 137.
Close behind the duo on 138 for the tournament so far was Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik. He ended his round, which featured an eagle three at the 14th, with a bogey-free 68 to muscle his way into a share of second place alongside Americans Olin Browne and Tom Byrum, Australian Peter Fowler and Carlos Franco of Paraguay.
A round of 70, to follow an opening 69, leaves Mark O’Meara (USA) in a position to strike over the weekend on 139, five under par, along with another Swede, Magnus Atlevi, and American Scott McCarron.
While Miguel Angel Jimenez (four under) and two-time champion Bernhard Langer (two under) are still in the hunt, Colin Montgomerie (76-73) missed the cut by a shot on five over, three more than playing partner Tom Watson (70) and Andrew Oldcorn, the sole Scot left in the field after rounds of 72 and 74.
