The first of this year’s Chinese visitors were welcomed to Carnoustie last week by Simpsons Golf Shop.

The group arrived from Guangzhou and Shenzhen in southern China drawn by a growing publicity drive in China.

Dave Valentine, who bought the shop over a year ago, has been promoting Carnoustie as a golfer ‘pilgrimage’ in the Chinese golf market through the co-production of ten films which were brought to a viewing audience of 20 million golf fans on the China Golf Channel.

Dave met the group’s leader during a recent visit to the China Golf Show in Beijing organised by Scottish Development International when around 18 Scottish companies and golf resort venues promoted their golf travel packages and other products to the ever growing China golfing community.

Dave said: “The Chinese golfing community looks to Scotland as the home of world golf and is keen to learn about our golf culture and heritage.

“My aim is to make Simpsons a ‘must see’ pilgrimage so that when Chinese golfers visit St Andrews they will also choose to play our Championship course and visit the shop where Robert Simpson had established his business”.
